About

Andromeda Robotics Pty Ltd is an Australian robotics company based at 224-226 Normanby Rd in Southbank, Melbourne, with a United States office at 665 3rd Street in San Francisco. It builds Abi, a personalised robot companion for aged-care and assisted-living residents, and frames its purpose as technology meeting empathy: helping care teams bring joy and connection to residents more often. The company began three years before its Series A announcement, sparked by co-founder Grace Brown's own experience of loneliness during the COVID pandemic, and its stated ambition is to solve the loneliness epidemic by redefining how people connect with technology, with the goal that no one has to face life alone. Abi is the most deployed humanoid robot in Australian aged care: mecwacare became the first aged-care provider in Australia to deploy a humanoid robot across all 22 of its homes in Melbourne and regional Victoria, which the company describes as the largest deployment in Australian aged care and one of the most significant anywhere, and Medical and Aged Care Group has worked with Abi since February 2024. Abi is deliberately designed as a social companion rather than a physical worker, standing 120 cm tall to avoid the uncanny valley, using a wheeled base instead of legs for stability, and combining facial recognition, emotion recognition, conversation memory reaching back days or months, and fluency in up to 90 languages. The company launched Genesis Abi, a fully autonomous next generation with major upgrades that it describes as the first humanoid robot ready to support Australia's workforce, and it is expanding into the United States starting with aged care, recruiting creative and animation robotics specialists to that end. In its Series A the company raised AUD 23 million, described as the largest raise led by a woman in Australia that year and a majority women-led round, from Forerunner Ventures' Eurie Kim, Main Sequence's Alezeia Brown, Rethink Impact's Heidi Patel and Artesian's Ananya Sinha alongside Visible Ventures, Trampoline and returning investors Startmate and Purpose Ventures. The money is directed at growing the Australian team and production, launching Genesis Abi, and beginning work in the United States.
