Boston Dynamics, Inc. is a U.S. robotics company headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. Founded in 1992 as a spinout from the MIT Leg Lab by Marc Raibert and later joined by Robert Playter, the company develops highly mobile robots for industrial inspection, logistics automation, mobile manipulation, and humanoid robotics. Its product lines include Spot, Stretch, Orbit, and Atlas. Boston Dynamics is majority owned by Hyundai Motor Group, with SoftBank retaining a minority stake after the 2021 acquisition closing. Spot and Stretch are commercial products, while Atlas is moving from research demos toward industrial humanoid deployments.
