About

KUKA SE & Co. KGaA, known as KUKA and in Chinese as 库卡, is a German automation group founded in Augsburg in 1898 by Johann Joseph Keller and Jakob Knappich, and it remains headquartered in Augsburg today. It reports sales of around 4 billion euro, or EUR 3.9 billion, with around 14,500 employees and operations in more than 50 countries, making it one of the world's leading suppliers of intelligent automation solutions. Its portfolio has widened well beyond the industrial robots it is best known for and now spans industrial automation, intralogistics and warehouse automation, delivered as products, solutions, services and software and AI. Its customers come from automotive, electronics, metal processing, manufacturing, retail and ecommerce, fast-moving consumer goods, healthcare and life sciences, aerospace and education, and it is part of the Midea Group, which acquired it in 2016 and 2017. At the 26th China International Industry Fair in Shanghai in October 2026 KUKA repositioned itself from an automation equipment supplier to a whole-plant intelligent solutions provider, launching the KAI platform, or KUKA Advanced Intelligence. KAI is described as an industrial intelligence hub for manufacturing built on full data, with a digital twin as its carrier and multi-agent systems as its execution units, covering consulting and planning, IT and OT integration and operations optimisation so that plant-wide sensing, scheduling and decision-making close into one loop; KUKA presents it as full-stack delivery, modular and replicable, and open and compatible. Alongside it the company released a native Chinese version of its Visual Components simulation software, a welding package with plus or minus 0.04 mm repeatability, LBR NEXUS collaborative robots rated from 7 to 20 kg, and MIRO, an industrial wheeled humanoid robot standing 1.39 to 1.85 m with 21 degrees of freedom, a 20 kg maximum carry, at least six hours of runtime and an equivalent 15,000-hour life test. Its developer community launched at the same event reports 85,000 registered users across more than 20,000 companies.
