Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI / 三菱重工) is a major Japanese heavy-industry conglomerate, established in 1950 out of the Mitsubishi group (founded by Yataro Iwasaki in 1870), headquartered at 3-3-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, with businesses spanning energy, logistics and drive systems, aviation and defense, machinery and infrastructure, consistently ranked in the Fortune Global 500. In robotics, MHI launched the home companion and remote-care robot Wakamaru (若丸) in 2005: about 100 cm / 30 kg, supporting conversation, remote monitoring, reminders and daily assistance; production was discontinued in 2009.
