Twolabs Inc.
Twolabs Inc. is a San Francisco robotics company founded in 2026 and backed by Y Combinator (Spring 2026 batch). It builds modular humanoid robots together with the software platform that lets others train, deploy and scale robots for real-world tasks, and describes its aim as making robotics as accessible as software development. The company's product thesis is that existing humanoid embodiments are overfit to specific use cases, so Twolabs is building a configurable platform with interchangeable end effectors, configurable sensors and multiple deployment configurations, and compressing robot skill training into a four-step pipeline: record, upload, train, deploy. Its commercial focus is caregiving rather than warehouse or factory work: semi-humanoid robots for nursing homes and senior living communities, intended to give elderly residents everyday help (feeding, dressing, medication reminders, fetching objects), mobility support (a stabilisation aid for walking plus wayfinding) and companionship. Twolabs builds the hardware and the AI in-house on the argument that at this stage of physical AI the models need to be specific rather than general-purpose, and that a genuinely useful caregiving robot must combine physical task execution with social intelligence. Its first robot design is Tobi; the company reported the prototype design complete with the AI stack in active development, is training vision-language-action models and building a social intelligence layer, and is advised by Prof. Zackory Erickson of Carnegie Mellon University. Founders are Sardor Rahmatulloev (CEO, previously Meta Superintelligence Labs) and Danyal Ahmad (CTO, MS in AI from Georgia Tech, formerly Salesforce). The company cites a US shortage of hundreds of thousands of caregivers, with a caregiver costing a facility around USD 60,000 a year, as the driver for its work.
