Digit 5
Digit 5 is Agility Robotics' fifth-generation humanoid and the company's first 'cooperatively safe' robot, built to work in close proximity to people without the safety barriers that normally separate a humanoid from a workforce. It is the largest step change in the Digit line: 1.80 m tall and 129 kg, with payload raised to 23 kg (50 lbs) lifted repeatedly — a 40% gain over the previous generation thanks to Agility's patented cycloidal actuators — and reach extended from 1.68 m to 2.20 m while staying narrow enough to pass through standard doors. Its legs were redesigned as well: the backward-curved, bird-like limbs of earlier Digits were replaced with joints that bend in a more human direction, so Digit 5 can crouch, lift and kneel without its ankles striking the ground, with kneepads for support and a seated, motors-off posture that lets workers approach safely. Autonomy is measured in uptime rather than top speed: a full recharge takes nine minutes and the run-to-charge ratio is 10:1, allowing up to 20 hours of work in a 24-hour day, and the platform was trained on 65,000 hours of real-world operational data. Sensing is safety-led, with cameras, depth sensors and inertial units detecting people and deciding whether to change direction, stop or sit, backed by a safety controller developed with NVIDIA on its IGX Thor and Halos for Robotics platforms. Grippers are ISO-compliant and swappable, including a claw hand for large containers, and the robot ships with Agility Arc fleet management software for integration with AMRs, WMS, WES and MES. Agility says Digit 5 is the first humanoid designed to undergo field evaluation under OSHA industrial safety standards.
