Shanghai Qingxin Creative Technology Co., Ltd.
Cyan Robotics, registered as Shanghai Qingxin Creative Technology Co., Ltd. and filing under Shanghai ICP record 2025113514, is a Chinese embodied-character robotics company founded in 2023 and based in Shanghai. It was founded and is led by Niu Tenghao, a Cambridge PhD who studied under a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and was previously a core research scientist on autonomous-driving programmes at Huawei and Toyota, and who is described as a specialist in robot brain technology. Its recently appointed Chief Technology Officer came from the autonomous-driving company Cruise, is a pioneer in safety-critical control and holds a UC Berkeley PhD, having worked on advanced autonomous-driving foundation models across L2, L3 and L4 stacks. The wider core team combines scientists, expert engineers, product and marketing specialists and psychologists, with members from the Berkeley robotics laboratory and leading autonomous-driving companies, and product and marketing people from ByteDance, Huawei, Xiaohongshu, TikTok and Nio. The company proposed the embodied character intelligence paradigm, and rather than selling efficiency tools or emotional toys it aims to build warm, living, multimodal embodied agents, using Orca as the technical base and pushing the same stack down into its first character robot. It achieved straight-knee walking ahead of others and created a reinforcement-learning emotional gait foundation model, validating and integrating emotional gait generation, whole-body motion control and multimodal interaction. Its own high-torque-density ultra-compact joint modules bring bipedal motion control into a body under 80 cm tall, and multiple size combinations can be matched to different IP shapes, breaking the constraints of a single general-purpose module. The body is edgeless and covered in layers of soft plush material to remove the cold or uncanny feel of robots, and it carries a multimodal perception system with a three-in-one agentic OS forming a big-brain and small-brain coordination system, supporting autonomous person-seeking and low-power companionship and expressing itself through language, facial expression, movement and action. The company plans a self-developed social world model to evolve from character simulation towards embodied intelligence. It positions the small robot at a high price point aimed at high-spending solo-living young and middle-aged people and families in first-tier cities, with later expansion to all ages, and intends to extend the technology platform to commercial display and elderly companionship on the business side while exploring partnerships with IP holders. Its small embodied robot prototype received positive feedback at AWE 2026. On financing, angel investors were Chuxin Capital, Lepu Capital, Oufang Angel and several well-known technology executives, and on 23 March 2026 the company announced an approximately 100 million yuan Pre-A round co-led by Houxue Capital and Tianji Capital with existing investor Lepu Capital following on, to fund product development and platform building for the ultra-compact bipedal robot, core algorithm iteration and team expansion. The company also reports 57 national-level patent applications and 17 honorary awards, and sells two characters: Amoo, an 80 cm ultra-compact bipedal humanoid, and Orca I, a 1.51 m full-size humanoid it describes as the world's first straight-knee walking robot. Amoo has been taken into a co-branded collaboration with MGM Shanghai West Bund.
