About

Fauna Robotics, Inc. is an American robotics company founded in 2024 by Rob Cochran and Josh Merel, both previously at Meta, and based in New York City. It says it designs and assembles its products in the United States, under the line designed in New York City and assembled in America, and its stated mission is to build capable, safe and fun robots for everyone. Its product is Sprout, a lightweight two-legged humanoid developer platform that the company unveiled on 27 January 2026 and describes as the development platform it wished had existed: modern developer workflows brought to robotics so teams can move from idea to prototype to deployment with less friction. Sprout is deliberately small and soft rather than strong: 107 cm tall, 22.7 kg, with 29 degrees of freedom, a soft exterior, lightweight materials, minimised pinch points, onboard safety sensing and compliant motor control that yields to external forces. It is aimed at four settings: retail and hospitality, where it welcomes guests and guides shoppers; consumer and home, as a personal assistant or companion; research and education, for collecting real-world data and teaching engineering; and entertainment and experiences, as an interactive character in parks and attractions. The company positions the platform around three ideas: full-stack capabilities that work out of the box, a developer-ready modular software stack with full SDK access, and a social, expressive design with articulated eyebrows, a 360 degree facial LED array and a two-degree-of-freedom neck. In February 2025 it raised a USD 16.6 million seed round with Kleiner Perkins, Lux Capital, Quiet Capital and Village Global among the backers shown on its site. It announced on 24 March 2026 that it had joined Amazon, and said it would continue selling Sprout Creator Edition robots and supporting existing customers as Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company; press reporting, first from Bloomberg, put the deal at a team of about 50 engineers joining Amazon's Personal Robotics Group with financial terms not disclosed. The company hosts its technical report on arXiv, publishes a press kit and a Sprout specification sheet, and lists sales and privacy contact addresses under the faunarobotics.com domain.
