REEM-C is PAL Robotics' first humanoid research robot, conceived in 2013 and now kept in the company's legacy line-up as the platform that paved the way for TALOS. It stands 165 cm and weighs 80 kg, and carries 68 degrees of freedom, giving it a wide repertoire of human-inspired motion. It walks stably at up to 2.5 km/h, can climb stairs and can sit on a chair, with torque sensors in the ankles and wrists supporting compliant, balanced movement. Each arm handles 1 kg fully extended, and battery autonomy is 3 hours walking or 6 hours standing by, which PAL highlights as giving the platform large autonomy for research use. REEM-C ships with out-of-the-box skills including walking, grasping, whole-body control and text-to-speech, and is fully ROS based, running Linux and Ubuntu; an open-source simulation model is published for it. Premium software adds whole-body control, navigation, HRI skills and teleoperation. PAL positions the robot as a research platform bringing navigation, vision and AI integration together for human-robot interaction research.

Application Scenarios

Human-robot interaction research; robotics and artificial intelligence research; research and education requiring a robust biped platform with out-of-the-box skills
