About

Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota / 丰田) is one of the worlds largest automobile manufacturers, founded on 1937-08-28 by Kiichiro Toyoda, headquartered in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan (with offices in Bunkyo, Tokyo). It is listed on the Tokyo, Nagoya, New York and London stock exchanges and has consistently ranked in the top 10 of the Fortune Global 500 (10th in 2020, 9th in 2021). Its business covers vehicle R&D and manufacturing (Toyota and Lexus brands, incl. conventional, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles) and mobility services. In humanoid robotics, Toyota has long invested via Toyota Central R&D Labs and related organizations: it announced the Partner Robot humanoid concept in 2004 (2007 bipedal version plays the violin), unveiled the teleoperated humanoid T-HR3 in November 2017 (master-slave system), and its employee-volunteer team developed the AI basketball robot CUE series (Guinness World Record of 2,020 consecutive free throws in 2019; seventh-generation CUE7 debuted in April 2026).
